On 28 July 2021, to celebrate World Hepatitis Day, Vietnam Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (VASLD) cooperated with Vietnam Society of Hepato Biliary Pancreatic Surgery (VSHBPS) and World Health Organization Representative in Vietnam, together with Vietnam’s leading experts to organize the digital scientific conference “Joining hands to prevent Hepatitis and Liver Cancer in Viet Nam”.
The conference took place at the main point of 354 Military Hospital and several points across the country. According to the Organizer, the conference is an opportunity to update knowledge, share experience, and cooperate with others for all participants to improve the multimodal treatment for patients with hepatitis and liver cancer.
At the beginning of the conference, Dr. Nguyen Thi Thuy Van, an expert from the World Health Organization (WHO) presented a report on hepatitis and liver cancer in Asia – Western Pacific and the message of WHO in 2021 “Hepatitis can’t wait”. These are important orientations for the prevention and control of hepatitis and liver cancer in Vietnam. Then, Prof. Le Trung Hai, the president of Vietnam Association for the Study of Liver Diseases, presented an overview report on “Joining hands to prevent hepatitis and liver cancer and updating recommendations on liver cancer”. The presentation showed the efforts of authorities and the health care system against hepatitis in Vietnam. The recommendations on liver cancer of Vietnam Association for the Study of Liver Diseases were applied in clinical practice and got positive feedback.
In the discussion session, hepatitis experts from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City presented protocols and updated knowledge on hepatitis B virus and hepatitis C virus. Surgeons presented the results, successes, and experiences in laparoscopic liver resection and liver transplant of big centers such as 108 Military Hospital, HCM University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital. In addition, the were many scientific reports from leading experts on liver cancer who come from K Hospital, HCM Oncology Hospital and others.
